Who Does Not 🚫 Need a Work Permit to Work in Sweden?

Citizens of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland do not need a work permit to work in Sweden if they are a Citizen of an EU country.

The Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) is a Swedish government agency that is responsible for all types of permits.

Types of Sweden Work Permits

Here are the different types of Sweden work permits:

Sweden Work Permit (Employer-sponsored)‍

This is the most common type of work permit for employees who have successfully received a Job offer from a Swedish employer to hire foreign workers from non-EU countries. As an employer, you must sponsor this work visa.

Sweden Seasonal Work Permit 🌱

This permit also comes under an Employer-sponsored. On this permit, you can perform duties in agriculture 🍒, forestry, the garden industry, the hotel and restaurant industry, the travel industry, tourist and reservation services, the operation of ski facilities and golf courses, theme parks, and the entertainment industry.

Sweden Self-Employment Permit

The Swedish self-employment permit covers Freelancers, entrepreneurs, and self-employed workers who wish to stay in the country for more than three months. A residence permit will be granted to you before travelling to sweden.

Intra Intra-company transfer Permit

This permit is for those if the company transfers the employee to the sweden branch.

Sweden Business Permit

A sweden business permit for those coming to sweden to attend the conference or coming on a business trip.

Sweden Working Holiday visa

Citizens of Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea aged 18–30 can also apply for a working holiday visa for up to one year to experience life in Sweden and Swedish culture.

EU Blue Card

The EU Blue card is for highly skilled workers with relevant professional experience.

  • Working Holiday visa: Up to one year.
  • EU Blue Card: Standard validity: 4 years

Sweden Work Visa Requirements

To Qualify for the sweden work permit:

  • You must have received a Valid Job offer from a Swedish Employer. (Job sites are listed below)
  • Pay a minimum monthly salary of SEK 13,000 before taxes.
  • Have a valid passport.
  • You cannot enter Sweden until the permit has been granted.

Sweden Work Visa Validity

The Sweden long-stay visa is a national visa, also known as a D-visa. The D Visa will be initially issued for one year.

How to Apply for the Sweden Work Permit?

So, the sweden Employer will sponsor the work permits. Getting a work permit in sweden starts with the Employer:

  • Your Employer in sweden must initiate the work permit application by providing information about the employment.
  • The Swedish Migration Agency will contact the employee at the email address that was provided to the employer.
  • You will receive an email from sweden with information about how to apply for a work permit.
  • You will attach all the documents that have been asked such as the employment contract, and passport pages.
  • Pay the Visa Fee online.
  • The Visa process will start.

Present Your Passport at the Swedish Embassy

The Swedish Migration Agency must check your passport before a decision can be made.

Residence Permit

If you are staying in sweden for more than 90 days you will need a residence permit. The card proves that you have permission to reside in Sweden and contains information such as your fingerprints and photograph.

Which Visa do You Need to Apply to Work in Sweden?

If you are not a citizen of Europe you will need a National D Visa. This visa allows you to stay for longer than 90 days. You can apply for this Visa at the Swedish Embassy.

Can You Get a Sweden Visa Without a Job Offer?

Duration of the Sweden Job Seeker Visa

If you get a residence permit for job seeking, it will be valid for only 9 months, not more and not less.
