Italy Digital Nomad Visa 2024 (Italy’s Calling Remote Workers)

Did you ever think that the money you are earning online from home as a remote worker, freelancer, or YouTuber would one day take you to Italy? The time has come to apply for the Italy Digital Nomad Visa in 2024. Italy has launched its Digital Nomad Visa program in April 2024. This Visa allows all the remote workers, and freelancers who are free to work from anywhere independently to live and work in Italy legally. The Italian Digital Nomad Visa is open to non-Europeans and it doesn’t require a Job offer from an Italian employer.

To be eligible for the nomad visa an applicant must have an employment contract with a company for whom they are working remotely or proof of a Freelancer. Additionally as of (9th May 2024), an applicant must earn around €2,700 per month or €32,400 annually. One of the benefits of having an Italian Digital Nomad visa is that you can live and work from Italy, and you can explore other European countries on your Visa with the possibility of renewing it for another year. Requirements of the Italy Digital Nomad Visa

  • Only non-Europeans can apply for the Italy Digital Nomad Visa.
  • Skilled professionals with either:
    • Employment contract with a company outside Italy (remote work).
    • Freelance contracts with clients outside Italy.
    • Proof of Freelancer, remote worker.
  • Proof of working remotely for at least six months before applying.
  • Minimum income Requirements: Minimum monthly income of €2,700 or €32,400 annually.

Required Documents

You have to submit these documents along with the Visa application form at the Italian embassy or any third party that manages Italian Visa applications in your country. The following documents are required:

  • Valid passport
  • Proof of employment/freelance contracts
  • Proof of income meeting the minimum threshold
  • Comprehensive health insurance valid for your stay
  • Proof of accommodation in Italy
  • Clean criminal record certificate
  • Passport Size Photos
  • Proof of Visa application fee.

How to Apply for the Italy Digital Nomad Visa?

The application process is simple if you meet all of the above requirements. The steps are given below.

  1. You need to apply for the Visa at the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your home country. Find the list of all Italian embassies here. In some countries, Italian embassies don’t accept direct applications and they have authorized third parties to handle the Visa applications.
  2. Schedule an in-person appointment and submit the following.
  3. Complete the visa application form.
  4. Pay the visa application fee.
  5. Wait for the decision.

What to do After the Approval of a Digital Nomad Visa?

  • Visa: You’ll receive a visa that allows you to enter Italy. With this visa, you can now travel.
  • Collect Residence Permit: Within eight days of arrival, apply for a “Permesso di Soggiorno” (residence permit) at a local Italian post office.
  • Validity: The residence permit is typically issued for one year, potentially two, with the possibility of renewal.
