Romania Work Visa Process 2024 (Employment Visa)

The Romania work visa for foreign nationals also works on a quota system like the Italy Work Visa. For 2024 the quota for work authorizations for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals in Romania is 100,000. A Maximum of 100,000 work permits can be issued to foreign workers.

A Romania work visa, also known as a long-stay visa for employment (D/AM), allows you to enter and stay in Romania for paid work. Except for EU/EEA and Swiss nationals, everyone needs a Long Stay Visa if they stay longer than 90 days. To get a Romania work visa you must have a work permit approved by the Romanian General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGE). This will be done by your employer. Types of Romania Work Visa

Romania Employment Visa (symbol D/AM): The Romania Employment Visa (symbol D/AM) is a long-stay visa that allows foreign nationals to take up paid employment in Romania.

Seasonal workers can also apply for a long-stay visa for employment (D/AM).

How to Get a Work Visa in Romania?

There are two steps involved:

  1. Obtaining a work permit from the Romanian General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGE). Your employer in Romania will handle this application on your behalf.
  2. Applying for a long-stay visa for employment marked with (D/AM) at a Romanian embassy or consulate in your home country. You will need the work permit as part of your visa application.

Note: After you receive work authorization, you have to apply for the Romania work visa at a Romanian diplomatic mission or consulate within 60 days.

Requirements for obtaining a Romania Work Visa

  • You must have a valid Job offer from the Romanian employer.
  • You are a highly skilled worker.
  • You must have a valid passport.
  • You must have a clean criminal record.
  • You must have proof of health insurance.
  • You must be able to support yourself financially during your stay in Romania.

Quota for Foreign Workers

As of February 24, 2024, the quota for work authorizations for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals in Romania is 100,000. This means that a maximum of 100,000 work permits can be issued to foreign workers from countries outside the European Union, European Economic Area, and Switzerland during 2024.

How to Apply for the Romania Work Visa?

The step-by-step application process is given below:

  • Step 1: Find a Job in Romania.
  • Step 2: Get a Work Permit Initiated by your employer: Your employer in Romania needs to apply for a work permit on your behalf at the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI).
  • Step 3: Romania Work Visa: You can apply for a long-stay visa for employment (D/AM) at a Romanian embassy or consulate in your home country.
