MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship 2025 (Embassy Applications)
The Applications are open for the MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship 2025 (Embassy Recommendation). It is a fully funded Japanese Government Scholarship for international students to study in Japanese Universities under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Each May, the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) surveys the number of international students in Japan. 231,146 international students were studying in Japan in 2022. 8,924 were studying on a Japanese Government Fund.
If you want to study in Japan under a MEXT Scholarship for Graduate Programs you can apply for the MEXT Scholarship for Masters, and PhD. Please note that you have to apply and submit your documents to the Japanese Embassy in your country. MEXT does not accept direct applications from students. IELTS is Not Required
Applicants are NOT required to take the IELTS Test. They can apply with English Proficiency Language Proof.
No Application Fee
The MEXT does not charge any fee at any stage.

Note: The applicant is not allowed to change course/field of study after the selection.
Scholarship Coverage by MEXT
- 100% of the tuition Fee
- Admission Fee, Book Fee
- A Monthly Allowance of 117,000 yen.

- Another support is also provided after the assessment of the applicant.
Scholarship Duration
The scholarship period will last for five years from April 2025 to March 2030, including one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects.
Six years for those majoring in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or in a six-year course in pharmacy)
Conditions and Eligibility Criteria
- An applicant should not be a Japanese Nationality holder.
- Applicants, in principle, must be born on or after April 2, 2000.
- Below must be 18 years of age or older at the time of admission to a university in Japan. (Exceptions are limited)
- Applicants who have completed 12 years of schooling.
- Applicants who meet the above qualification by March 2025 are eligible
- Applicant must be able to arrive in Japan between April 1, 2025, and April 7, 2025
